Ulrich Kater (57) studied Economics at the University of Göttingen and University of Cologne. He received his PhD degree in 1995 from the Chair of Public Economics at the University of Cologne, while at the same time teaching and performing Research at the University of Cologne, Cologne University of Applied Sciences and the European Business School. From 1995 to 1999, Kater was on the staff of the German Council of Economic Experts, responsible for the areas of Monetary Policy and Capital Markets. Kater joined DekaBank in 1999, where he initially worked on setting up the Economics Department. Kater has been the Chief Economist at DekaBank since 2004, and Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council of the Federal Association of Public Banks in Germany since 2006. He lectures at the University of Witten-Herdecke and Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen. Kater is the author of many publications in the areas of Monetary Policy, Exchange Rate Policy, International Capital Markets, Financial Policy, Old-Age Security Systems and the International Trade in Services, such as: “100 Economic Indicators” (100 Konjunkturindikatoren), CometisVerlag, 2008, “European Central Bank Manual” (Handbuch Europäische Zentralbank), UhlenbruchVerlag 2005.
